Every 60 seconds, malaria claims a life in Africa. Millions of lives, needlessly lost each year. A continent. Entire nations…slipping away. Slipping through life’s precious net. Unless you hear the buzzing inside you.
Imagine No Malaria is an extraordinary effort of the people of The United Methodist Church, putting our faith into action to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother. When we first began our Nothing But Nets campaign the rate of malaria death for children was 1 every 30 seconds. Since that time our efforts have reduced the rate to 1 every 60 seconds. However, 1 child every 60 seconds is still too high. Imagine No Malaria is our new campaign to eliminate malaria related death once and for all.
We want to do away with the rate of Malaria related death for good.
Our research has shown that we can achieve this goal through a comprehensive plan of prevention, treatment, education, and communication. This plan will cost $75 million.
The UM Churches in Michigan are partnering together to help share the load of this work.
Our vision in Michigan is to raise $1.5 million.
When we break that down, it works out to $10 per life/per member.
For just $10 we can save one life.
As a church, our goal was $1,500.
$1,500 means that our church can collectively save 150 children's lives.
By May of 2014 our total was $2,557. A total that saves 255 lives.
